Bury St Edmunds named UK town with friendliest locals

Bury St Edmunds, a market town in Suffolk, has been crowned the UK destination with the most welcoming residents according to The Express. Visitors highlight the exceptional friendliness of locals as a standout feature. The recognition underscores the town's appeal beyond its scenery and attractions.

The Express, a national newspaper, has identified Bury St Edmunds as the UK's market town home to the friendliest locals, based on tourist feedback. Described as an underrated gem, the town earns praise for its welcoming atmosphere, with one visitor noting, "what made it stand out the most was just how nice people were." Another remarked, "It felt like they were the friendliest and most welcoming locals."

This accolade builds on previous recognition for the Suffolk town. The Telegraph previously highlighted its high street for featuring a healthy selection of quirky and independent businesses. Bury St Edmunds boasts a large collection of unique shops offering antiques, collectables, clothing, and jewellery.

The town also holds the nickname "Suffolk's foodie capital," thanks to its array of highly rated food and drink venues, including the Michelin Star-winning Pea Porridge. Crowds regularly visit for the weekly markets held on Wednesdays and Saturdays, adding to the vibrant community feel.

Tourists appreciate the town's scenery, attractions, and culinary offerings, but the locals' warmth sets it apart in surveys compiled by The Express.
