Derry hosts record-breaking padel tournament with £10,000 prize

The CUPRA IPT Argento Cup marked a milestone for Irish padel, featuring the largest prize pool in the country's history at £10,000. Elite players from Ireland and abroad competed at the new Let’s Go Padel facility in Derry~Londonderry. The event highlighted the sport's growing prominence on the island.

The CUPRA IPT Argento Cup, a key event on the Padel Federation of Ireland circuit, took place at the premium Let’s Go Padel facility in Derry~Londonderry. Organized with the vision of Peter Boyle, owner of Argento and Let’s Go Padel, the tournament drew 130 top national and international players. It offered a £10,000 prize fund, the highest ever for a padel event in Ireland and among the most significant on the global national circuit level.

The facility features eight double courts and two single courts, underscoring the professional setup for this fast-growing sport. In the open men’s final, Alberto Gasca (World No. 532) and Alejandro Urzola (World No. 362) defeated Nicolás Aguirre (World No. 442) and Álvaro Salcedo (Spain U18 No. 40) with a score of 6–7, 6–2, 6–3. After losing a tight first-set tiebreak, Gasca and Urzola dominated the second set and clinched the title in the decider.

The women’s final showcased Irish talent, as Anna Zuka (Ireland No. 3) and Sinead Lohan (Ireland No. 27) beat Amy Flynn (Ireland No. 4) and Katie Nolan (Ireland No. 6) 6–0, 6–4. Zuka and Lohan, from Naas and Waterford respectively, used disciplined tactics and aggressive net play to secure victory in straight sets. Flynn and Nolan are also from Naas.
