East Jakarta seals unlicensed padel court in enforcement action

The East Jakarta City Government sealed an unlicensed padel court on March 12, 2026, as part of efforts to regulate sports facilities. Officials from the DKI Jakarta Department of Construction, Spatial Planning, and Land assisted in the operation. This action highlights ongoing concerns over 27 unlicensed padel courts among 57 in the area.

On Thursday, March 12, 2026, authorities in East Jakarta sealed a padel court located at Jalan Kolonel Sutomo 1, Number 22, RT 6/RW 6, Kebon Pala Village, Jatinegara District. The site, originally permitted in 2018 for use as a boarding house known as Indekos, had been repurposed into a padel court by 2025, violating its licensing function.

East Jakarta Mayor Munjirin stated that his administration, in collaboration with the DKI Jakarta Department of Construction, Spatial Planning, and Land (Citata), has now sealed eight such padel courts in the region. "This means that there is a wrong function of the permit, which is misused to build a padel court," Munjirin explained to reporters.

The city government holds data indicating 57 padel courts operating in East Jakarta, with 27 lacking proper licenses. Munjirin emphasized the need for compliance, saying, "Of course we hope that all residents of East Jakarta who carry out construction activities, especially the construction of padel courts, to obey the existing regulations, namely the permits and permits that have been issued must also be in accordance with them."

Looking ahead, the mayor announced continued monitoring in partnership with the DKI Jakarta City Administration. He noted that technical procedures, including whether seals would be removed, would follow standard operating procedures from Citata. Additionally, Munjirin urged village and sub-district officials to oversee the sites and prevent any activities, while coordinating with the East Jakarta Creative Industry Service for further information.
