A heatwave with record temperatures is ongoing across much of Europe. In Sweden, temperatures up to 30–35 degrees are expected over the weekend.

SMHI has issued warnings for high temperatures in Götaland, Värmland and parts of Kalmar County from Thursday to Sunday. The warnings apply when temperatures exceed 26 degrees over three days.

Meteorologist Catarina Wahlström at SMHI states that on Saturday it could be over 30 degrees, up to 33 in places. Similar forecasts come from Klart, where Lasse Rydqvist mentions up to 35 degrees in parts of the country.

In Western Europe the situation is more severe. France has red warnings in nearly half of its departments with temperatures up to 42 degrees and risk of 44 degrees. Two children, aged two and four, have been found dead in a car in Carpentras in southern France where it was 38 degrees.

The heat is expected to last at least a week, according to meteorologists. In Skåne it will be around 25 degrees, possibly a bit warmer, but no heatwave according to SMHI's definition.
