Filip Forsberg was the standout performer, achieving his 11th career NHL hat trick and first of the season. He opened the scoring just 27 seconds into the first period with a quick shot assisted by Ryan O'Reilly, beating Blues goaltender Joel Hofer short side.
The Blues tied the game at 1-1 at 10:06 of the first when Dalibor Dvorsky wristed a shot past Juuse Saros after a feed from Hugh McGing. Nashville regained the lead early in the second period at 1:23, as Michael Bunting wrapped the puck through Hofer's pads for a 2-1 advantage. Following a delay of game penalty to Dvorsky, Forsberg extended the lead to 3-1 at 5:31 with a power-play wrist shot from long range.
Reid Schaefer made it 4-1 at 18:45 of the second with a spinning wrist shot from the blue line. In the third, Dvorsky pulled one back to 4-2 at 8:29 on a power-play backdoor tap-in assisted by Pavel Buchnevich and Jake Neighbours, marking his first multi-goal NHL game. Forsberg sealed the hat trick and the win with an empty-net goal at 16:09.
Predators coach Andrew Brunette praised Forsberg: "'Fil' was doing Fil things tonight. He got us off to a great start." Forsberg added, "We started off well, obviously, getting that early goal. That gave us a little boost." For the Blues, Dvorsky noted disappointment despite his performance: "Obviously, it feels good to score, but first of all, I’m disappointed that we lost."
Nashville improved to 13-15-4, going 7-3-0 in their last 10 games, while St. Louis fell to 12-15-7, losing three of their past four. Roman Josi and O'Reilly each recorded two assists. In notes, Blues forward Dylan Holloway was placed on injured reserve with a right ankle injury, missing six weeks, and Alexey Toropchenko returned after missing seven games due to burns.
