The Flames responded in the first period. Yan Kuznetsov netted his first career NHL goal at 5:35 with a wrist shot that went through Seth Jones' legs and past Daniil Tarasov. Mackenzie Weegar tied the game 2-2 at 10:41 with a slapshot from the point.
Calgary took control in the second period. Morgan Frost scored on a two-man advantage 55 seconds in, banging home a rebound from Rasmus Andersson's shot to make it 3-2. The Panthers pulled within one at 11:54 of the third when Brad Marchand scored on the rush with Tarasov pulled for an extra attacker. Joel Farabee sealed the 5-3 win with an empty-net goal at 18:57, his 100th career NHL goal. Cooley stopped 37 of 39 shots, while Tarasov made 29 saves.
The Flames improved to 9-14-3, while the Panthers fell to 12-11-1, losing three of their last four. Calgary faces the Carolina Hurricanes on Sunday, and Florida hosts the Toronto Maple Leafs on Tuesday.
