GE Profile unveils mini Opal nugget ice maker at KBIS

GE Profile has launched a compact version of its popular Opal nugget ice maker at the Kitchen and Bath Industry Show in Orlando, Florida. The mini model, set for release later in 2026, offers the same crunchy ice in a smaller footprint with colorful options. It comes in standard and Pro versions to suit different needs.

The Kitchen and Bath Industry Show (KBIS) 2026 in Orlando, Florida, featured the debut of the GE Profile Opal Mini, a downsized edition of the viral nugget ice maker that first appeared in 2015. This original model sparked a trend in countertop ice makers, leading to various competitors in the category.

The Opal Mini measures about half the size of the full model, with a reduced water tank capacity. It introduces a top-fill design, removing the need for a side reservoir, and includes a flip-open front panel for easy cleaning and descaling. Despite its compact form, it produces up to 34 pounds of nugget ice per day, matching the original's output but requiring more frequent refills.

GE Profile offers two variants: the standard Opal Mini, which emphasizes its ultra-compact design, and the Opal Mini Pro. The Pro version adds a side tank for fewer refills, a scale-inhibiting water filter, a stainless-steel scoop with an external holder, and Wi-Fi connectivity via SmartHQ. This allows users to schedule operations, receive maintenance alerts, and customize the ice bin light color.

At KBIS, the machine was displayed in at least seven colors, including black, white, stainless steel, mint green, red, yellow, and pink. It will be available later in 2026 on geappliances.com, Amazon, and select retailers for a suggested retail price of $299.

The Opal Mini addresses demand for nugget ice in smaller spaces, building on the success of the full-size model without sacrificing core features like an integrated filter for cleaner ice.
