Illinois mother and boyfriend accused of yearslong child abuse

An 11-year-old boy in Fox Lake, Illinois, was found beaten and wearing only a diaper, leading to the arrest of his mother, Pricilla P. Marshall, and her boyfriend, Cody R. Marion. The pair faces charges including aggravated battery and endangering the life of a child after allegedly subjecting the boy to prolonged abuse. Other children in the home were unharmed.

The incident came to light around 9:30 a.m. on a Friday when a local business owner in the area of Nippersink Boulevard and Grand Avenue discovered the 11-year-old boy, who had blood on his face and visible welts, bruises, and scratches across his body. He was dressed only in a diaper. Police transported him to a hospital for treatment.

Upon arriving at the family home, officers encountered Pricilla P. Marshall, 34. The household included two younger children, aged 1 and 2, who were unharmed, as well as two older boys who were at school. Investigators conducted forensic interviews with the children, revealing a pattern of abuse against the 11-year-old spanning years.

According to the Fox Lake Police Department, Marshall and Cody R. Marion, 35, poured dish soap into the boy's mouth and ears, beat him with household objects, and prevented him from attending school. Court proceedings detailed further allegations: Marshall reportedly used extension cords, metal spatulas, and spoons to strike the boy, punched him in the face, and forced him to undress to intensify the pain. She allegedly threatened to stab him "33 times" and instructed his older brother to assault him.

Prosecutors also described how Marshall made the boy kneel on uneven floorboards while repeatedly writing sentences in a notebook, such as "you're not a loved child, everybody hates you." Meanwhile, the other children received meals from McDonald's or Pizza Hut, but the boy was restricted to canned food or ravioli.

Following the interviews, police arrested Marshall and Marion, who were held without bond at Lake County Jail. Marion has a court appearance scheduled for Tuesday. None of the other children showed signs of harm.
