Man charged with assault after plank attack near Louisville McDonald's

Julius Howard, 49, faces first-degree assault charges after allegedly beating a man with a wooden plank near a McDonald's in Louisville, Kentucky. Witnesses reported the suspect telling the victim to 'leave his country' during the attack. The victim suffered critical injuries, prompting a homicide unit investigation.

Just before 2 a.m. on Tuesday, Louisville Metro Police responded to reports of a fight in the 400 block of East Market Street, downtown Louisville, near a McDonald's restaurant. Officers found the victim on nearby South Jackson Street with critical and life-threatening injuries from an assault. Emergency responders transported him to a hospital, and due to the injury severity, the LMPD Homicide Unit took over the investigation.
