In 2023, the Biden White House released a Christmas video featuring a modern tap-dance performance by the New York City–based troupe Dorrance Dance as part of a holiday rollout that drew criticism from some conservative commentators, who labeled the presentation “bizarre,” “freaky” and “cringey.” Conservative outlets such as The Maine Wire and The Daily Wire noted that the group’s website promoted support for racial justice efforts, including Black Lives Matter and Showing Up for Racial Justice.
