Microsoft confirms Azure Linux 4.0 based on Fedora

Microsoft announced several open source updates this week, including confirmation that its Azure Linux 4.0 distribution is built on Fedora. The news emerged during a keynote at the Open Source Summit.

Brendan Burns, corporate vice president for Azure OSS and Cloud Native at Microsoft, outlined the company's move toward an AI native era. Azure Linux 4.0 will enter public preview on Azure Virtual Machines, with a sign-up form now available for early access while development continues.
