Three men aged over 50 will ride more than 5,000 kilometers through Morocco, Mauritania and Senegal next year to raise awareness of prostate cancer. The journey, named “The Real Way To Dakar,” is scheduled to run from January 18 to January 27, 2027.
The riders, Marc de Roo, Mai-San Wan and Lennert Blokketo, plan to start in northern Morocco and travel south through the Atlas Mountains and the Sahara. They will continue into Mauritania before finishing at Lac Rose in Senegal.
The group aims to echo the spirit of the original Dakar Rally while stressing the value of early detection for the disease, which ranks as the fourth most common cancer in men worldwide. According to 2022 figures cited by the organizers, there were approximately 1.46 million new cases that year.
The riders say their motorcycles have been prepared for the demanding conditions. They are seeking additional sponsors and partners to support the effort.
