Rays prospect Xavier Isaac reveals life-saving brain surgery

Tampa Bay Rays prospect Xavier Isaac disclosed on Friday that he underwent life-saving brain surgery in July. The 21-year-old first baseman described the experience as the scariest moment of his life after a routine brain scan prompted by dehydration symptoms. Isaac has fully recovered and is expected to be ready for Spring Training.

Xavier Isaac, the Tampa Bay Rays' No. 5 prospect according to MLB Pipeline, shared his health update via Instagram, revealing he had season-ending brain surgery over the summer. The 2022 first-round Draft pick initially sought a brain scan thinking it was 'just dehydration,' but it led to what he called 'the scariest moment of my life.'

Isaac did not specify the exact nature of the surgery but emphasized his full recovery. He recently took part in a hitting camp for Rays Minor Leaguers, signaling his readiness to return. The surgery ended his season on June 25 after he played 41 games for Double-A Montgomery. Earlier, an elbow injury had limited him during Spring Training.

Throughout the season, Isaac had requested that the Rays keep his status private. His announcement drew quick support on social media from Rays teammates including Junior Caminero, Josh Lowe, and Carson Williams, as well as prospects from other teams like Roman Anthony, Max Clark, and Termarr Johnson.

Isaac wrapped up his post optimistically, declaring 'X is Back.'
