Red Wings rally past Islanders for 3-2 victory

The Detroit Red Wings overcame a 1-0 deficit to defeat the New York Islanders 3-2 at Little Caesars Arena. Alex DeBrincat scored twice on the power play in the third period, including the game-winner with 2:17 left. The Islanders tied the game late but fell short before a sellout crowd of 19,515.

The New York Islanders started strong, taking a 1-0 lead just 4:27 into the first period when Emil Heineman netted his 11th goal of the season, assisted by Mathew Barzal and Jonathan Drouin. The second period passed without any scoring, keeping the Islanders ahead after two frames.

In the third, Detroit mounted a comeback. Axel Sandin-Pellikka tied it at 1-1 at 2:03, assisted by Lucas Raymond. DeBrincat then put the Red Wings up 2-1 at 3:55 on a power-play goal, with assists from Moritz Seider and Raymond. Scott Mayfield responded for New York at 11:26, scoring his first of the season with help from Jean-Gabriel Pageau and Anders Lee to make it 2-2.

However, with Mayfield in the penalty box, DeBrincat struck again at 17:43 on another power-play tally, assisted by Seider and Raymond, securing the 3-2 win. Ilya Sorokin made 18 saves for the Islanders, while John Gibson stopped 16 shots for Detroit.

The Islanders went 0-for-1 on the power play and allowed two goals on two Detroit chances. New York outshot Detroit 18-21 overall. This marked the first time this season the Islanders lost in regulation when leading after two periods. They remain second in the Metropolitan Division, three points behind Carolina.

DeBrincat's two goals, including the winner, highlighted Detroit's third-period surge, with Raymond earning three assists.
