Building on initial reports of the Kansas City Royals acquiring outfielder Isaac Collins and reliever Nick Mears from the Milwaukee Brewers for lefty Angel Zerpa, new details note Collins' down stretch and postseason limited role, alongside favorable control for Kansas City.
The Royals acquired Isaac Collins and Nick Mears from the Brewers on December 14 in exchange for Angel Zerpa, bolstering outfield depth shortly after signing Lane Thomas.
As previously detailed, Collins posted a .368 OBP, hit .263 with 16 steals, and finished fourth in NL Rookie of the Year voting. However, he struggled down the stretch and started just one of Milwaukee's nine postseason games.
The Royals now control the 28-year-old Collins through 2030, while Mears is under control through 2027. The Brewers receive Zerpa, controlled through 2028 and noted for his 100 mph velocity, with Milwaukee's pitching development staff viewing him as a riser. The deal nets Kansas City five years of Collins for three of Zerpa, despite Collins entering as an older rookie at 27.
