Pelley accused new leadership, including Bari Weiss, of pushing for changes to a February segment on an ICE operation in Minneapolis. He said Weiss requested alterations to portray protesters as more violent than footage showed and to misrepresent the actions of Renée Good, a victim in the events. Pelley refused the changes, and the segment aired as originally produced. He also criticized the firings of producer Tania Simon and correspondents Sharyn Alfonsi and Cecilia Vega, calling the day 'Black Thursday.' During a meeting, Pelley told Bilton that Weiss lacked qualifications for her role and described the leadership as unfamiliar with the demands of news work. Bilton fired Pelley the next day for cause, resulting in no severance. In his interview, Pelley expressed concerns about perceived political influence at the network and defended his approach to balancing coverage.
