Building on 2025 shareholder meeting announcements and ongoing Giga Texas construction, Tesla plans large-scale Optimus production at Fremont later in 2026—replacing Model S and X lines—followed by a higher-capacity Giga Texas factory in 2027. Elon Musk shared updated timelines recently.
Tesla is advancing its Optimus humanoid robot production plans. Following the 2025 shareholder meeting where CEO Elon Musk outlined a 1 million units-per-year pilot line at Fremont by late 2026 and a 10 million units-per-year facility at Giga Texas starting 2027, the company has begun detailed preparations.
At Fremont Factory, large-scale Optimus production will replace the Model S and Model X lines, which end production by late May 2026. Installation of the first-generation line—targeting 1 million robots annually—is set for Q2 2026, with output expected in late July or August. Musk confirmed: "We're preparing for Fremont production later this year... Start of production we're assuming is somewhere late July/August timeframe."
A second, higher-capacity factory at Giga Texas is under construction, aiming to scale production significantly next summer, aligning with prior plans for massive output. This continues Tesla's robotics push, with Optimus V3 pilots already underway at Fremont.
