Tesla launches promotion for free supercharging on gas trade-ins

Tesla has introduced a new incentive on October 31, 2025, offering 2,000 free Supercharging miles to owners who trade in gas or hybrid vehicles for a new Tesla. This move aims to encourage the switch to electric vehicles following the end of the $7,500 federal EV tax credit on September 30. The promotion provides a two-year validity period for the free miles.

Tesla rolled out the promotion on October 31, 2025, targeting gas and hybrid vehicle owners to boost sales amid challenging market conditions. The offer provides 2,000 free miles of Supercharging, accessible at any station on Tesla's network, valid for two years from the vehicle's delivery date. To qualify, buyers must trade in a gas or hybrid electric vehicle for any model in Tesla's lineup; electric vehicle trade-ins and pre-owned Tesla purchases do not apply.

The free miles appear automatically in the buyer's Tesla account upon delivery. However, standard idle fees and congestion fees at Superchargers remain in effect, requiring drivers to move their vehicles after charging to avoid extra costs. For context, the value of these miles varies by model and location; for a Model Y, which achieves about 3.5 miles per kWh, 2,000 miles equate to roughly 570 kWh. At an average rate of $0.40 per kWh, this is approximately $228 USD, though rates fluctuate by time and region.

This incentive follows the discontinuation of the $7,500 federal EV tax credit on September 30, 2025, prompting Tesla to experiment with various offers over the past month. Tesla's Supercharging Network supports this promotion with its recent growth: a 16 percent increase in stations and 18 percent in connectors during Q3 2025 compared to the prior year, totaling over 73,800 connectors globally. The company anticipates more promotions in the coming months, as Q4 historically marks its strongest delivery period.

While Supercharging is not the primary charging method for most owners—who often rely on home or workplace setups—it remains essential for road trips and those without home charging. This offer could familiarize new owners with the network, potentially increasing long-term usage.
