Tesla offers turn signal stalk retrofit for Model 3 in US

Tesla is now allowing US owners of the refreshed Model 3 to reinstall the turn signal stalk for a fee. The company removed the stalk in its 2024 Highland update, replacing it with buttons that received mixed feedback. The retrofit kit costs $595 and is available on Tesla's website.

Tesla launched the Model 3 Highland refresh in early 2024, introducing several changes to the electric sedan's interior, including the removal of the traditional turn signal stalk. In its place, the company installed buttons on the steering wheel, a move intended to streamline the design and prepare for more autonomous driving features. This alteration drew mixed reviews from drivers, with many expressing a preference for the familiar stalk mechanism.

Responding to customer demand, Tesla initially offered a retrofit kit in several regions outside the US. As of October 8, 2025, the option has expanded to the United States. Owners can purchase the stalk retrofit kit for $595 directly from Tesla's website, provided they have a Model 3 linked to their Tesla account.

The retrofit addresses feedback from users who found the button system less intuitive. Notably, Tesla did not apply the same stalk removal to the updated Model Y, which launched in the US in early 2025 and retained the traditional stalk. This decision suggests the company recognized the polarizing nature of the change, though it avoided offering stalk options during initial Model 3 production to maintain manufacturing efficiency.

TESLARATI reported the availability via a tweet: "If you really want a stalk on your Tesla Model 3, you can pay $595 for the retrofit kit in the U.S." The kit's introduction highlights Tesla's flexibility in accommodating owner preferences amid its push toward minimalist, tech-forward vehicle designs.
