An 18-year-old unlicensed driver struck and killed a 3-year-old girl eating with her family at a Beachwood restaurant on Father's Day. Jasmine McFadden faces charges of aggravated vehicular homicide in the death of Margot Miller-Wilkins.
The incident occurred around 1:30 p.m. Sunday at City Barbeque in Beachwood, Ohio. McFadden was backing a 2015 Nissan Rogue in the parking lot when she drove over a curb, hit a fence and struck several people at an outdoor table, according to a probable cause affidavit.
Witnesses, including the victim's father, called 911. "A car just reversed to us at a restaurant and my daughter has been hit by the car," he told dispatchers. Paramedics took the girl to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
McFadden's father, 61-year-old Kenneth McFadden, was also arrested after he allegedly told police he had been driving. He faces an obstruction charge. Jasmine McFadden, who did not have a license, has a $100,000 bond. Her father posted a $10,000 bond.
Beachwood police extended condolences to the family and others affected. Kenneth McFadden played college basketball at Cleveland State University in the 1980s and is in the school's Hall of Fame.
