Two women have been charged with first-degree murder after police found a 67-year-old woman dead at a senior living center in Silver Spring, Maryland. The suspects were arrested hundreds of miles away in Ohio following a tip from a local woman who had offered them help.
Vanessa Tjongarero-Henderson, 29, and Samantha Raebel, 36, face charges in the death of Tjongarero-Henderson's mother, Hilde Henderson. Montgomery County police responded to the Charter House on Fenwick Lane on May 26 after a welfare check. An autopsy showed Henderson died from blunt force trauma on May 22.
Investigators identified the pair as suspects and issued a public alert. Days later in Genoa, Ohio, Adrienne Behrman allowed the women to stay at her apartment after they said they were homeless. Behrman grew suspicious and consulted her friend Nikki Peters.
Peters searched online and matched details to the wanted women. Behrman then called police, leading to the arrests. The pair remains in an Ohio jail awaiting extradition to Maryland. No motive has been released.
