Ba Shusong, former managing director and chief China economist at Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing (HKEX), has not appeared in public recently and could not be contacted, according to two sources familiar with the situation. Mainland media outlets reported that he was missing, with speculation that he had been detained by authorities for an investigation. An HKEX spokesman confirmed Ba left the company in late 2025.

The Dalian Intermediate People’s Court sentenced former Aviation Industry Corp of China (AVIC) executive Tan Ruisong to death with a two-year reprieve on Tuesday, confiscating all his personal property. Tan confessed to taking about US$89 million in bribes and insider trading during his tenure at AVIC and its Harbin subsidiary from 1998 to 2024.

China Mobile opened its second data centre in northern Hong Kong on Wednesday and plans to increase investment in next-generation submarine cables. The company has invested nearly HK$10 billion (US$1.28 billion) over five years to integrate the city into China’s national computing network, positioning it as a key node in global computing.
