Police in Oita City, Oita Prefecture, have re-arrested a 58-year-old man on suspicion of killing an 18-year-old girl in March. The man was initially arrested on April 12 for abandoning her body. The girl was last seen leaving home at 11:30 p.m. on March 2.

After a large-scale fire in Oita's Saganoseki district, companies and prominent figures with regional ties have announced donations to aid recovery efforts. The Oita prefectural and city governments began accepting contributions on November 20, two days after the fire started. Major nonferrous metals firm JX Advanced Metals pledged ¥1 billion to the Oita city government.
