War dead
The Japanese government has started an excavation survey in Taiwan to recover remains of war dead, marking the first such effort since 1975 despite the absence of diplomatic relations between Tokyo and Taipei.

The remains of 193 Japanese war dead from World War II were added to the Chidorigafuchi National Cemetery in Tokyo. The addition brought the total number of people laid to rest there to 371,167.
