Adam Scott is scheduled to tee off Thursday at the U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills, extending his streak of consecutive major championship appearances to 100. The Australian joins only Jack Nicklaus in reaching the mark.
Scott began the streak at the 2001 Open Championship at Royal Lytham & St Annes after missing the cut in his 2000 debut. He has since played in every major, recording 74 cuts made, one victory at the 2013 Masters, and multiple close finishes.
The 45-year-old nearly saw the streak end before the 2024 U.S. Open but earned entry after the field was adjusted following Grayson Murray’s death. Scott has described the milestone as unexpected and difficult to reflect on while still competing.
Rory McIlroy called the achievement “incredibly impressive,” noting the combination of talent, health, and consistency required. Scott said he remains focused on winning rather than looking back, though he has appreciated recognition from peers and sponsors.
Jack Nicklaus, who holds the record with 146 straight majors, recently told Scott the mark feels like “an eternity.”
