Already convicted babysitter charged with rapes and assaults on 18 children

A 37-year-old man has been charged and placed in provisional detention for rapes and sexual assaults on 18 children aged from 2 months to 5 years in the Lille area between March 2023 and December 2025.

Lille prosecutor Samuel Finielz said the 37-year-old suspect, already convicted in 2020 in Nice for sexual assault on a minor, continued working as a babysitter through a matching platform. He is suspected of raping three children and sexually assaulting fifteen others, including two cases that also involve corruption of minors.

The investigation opened at the end of December after a mother filed a complaint about her two-year-and-ten-month-old son who had been cared for by the man. Searches uncovered images of sexual abuse on a domestic animal, leading to an additional charge.

The suspect, listed in the national register of sex offenders, had his judicial supervision strengthened in May 2025 with a total ban on contact with minors. He denied the acts during questioning. Investigations continue to identify other potential victims.
