Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has stated there will be no squad changes during the January transfer window. Despite ongoing injury issues, the team is focusing on upcoming matches, including a rivalry clash with Leeds United. Amorim emphasized continuity in the club's process amid a solid but inconsistent season.
Manchester United are navigating a challenging period with multiple injuries as they prepare for a Premier League encounter with Leeds United. Manager Ruben Amorim addressed the media ahead of the Sunday fixture at Elland Road, ruling out any alterations to the squad in the January transfer window.
Amorim was clear in his assessment: “The transfer window is not going to change, we have no conversation to have any change in the squad. There is a process, there is an idea – that is going to continue. We are near places of the Champions League but we are also near eight teams behind us, so let’s focus on the next game.”
The team sits just three points outside the top four, an improvement from last season's struggles, but recent form has been mixed. United drew 1-1 at home against winless Wolves to close out 2025, a result that highlighted defensive vulnerabilities despite creating chances. They have won only one of their last four games and have dropped points at Old Trafford against Everton, West Ham, and Bournemouth.
Injuries are compounding the issues, with Bruno Fernandes, Harry Maguire, Matthijs de Ligt, Mason Mount, and Kobbie Mainoo sidelined. Additionally, Amad Diallo and Noussair Mazraoui are away at the Africa Cup of Nations, alongside Bryan Mbeumo—though the latter's involvement appears contextual to broader absences.
No players have requested to leave, according to Amorim: “No, none of them. I don’t expect them to come to me to ask.” He acknowledged the upcoming match's significance as a derby, noting Leeds' unbeaten run in their last six games under Daniel Farke. “I heard that it’s a big derby, great environment, big rivalry, but every game in the Premier League is so tough,” Amorim said. “When you play for Manchester United you need to be ready for everything.”
Reflecting on performance, Amorim added: “I think we are playing better, when we have the full squad we are clearly attacking better, we’re not good enough in the details. We always want more and we should have more points in the table.” The focus remains on internal improvement rather than external reinforcements.
