Ángel Hidalgo delivered a standout shot during the third round of the U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills on Saturday.
The 28-year-old Spaniard is competing in his first U.S. Open and third major overall. He opened with rounds of 69 and 74 to make the cut.
In strong winds on Saturday, Hidalgo hit a low fairway wood on the par-5 fifth hole from 268 yards. The ball stayed under the wind, bounced on the left side of the green and stopped 30 feet from the hole for a birdie.
Hidalgo explained the shot after his round. He said he tried to hit it low and straight into the wind from the left while focusing on a links-style approach.
He finished the day at 74 and stands seven over par, 13 shots behind leader Wyndham Clark.
