Anthropic has paused upcoming changes to its billing practices for the Claude Agent SDK. The move reverses a shift that would have raised costs for heavy users starting this month.
Anthropic announced last month that it would begin treating usage of its Claude Agent SDK separately from standard Claude access. Starting June 15, such usage would have been billed at prevailing API rates, with users receiving a monthly credit equal to their subscription price.
The company reversed course on Monday, updating its support page to state that it is pausing the changes. It added that nothing has changed for now while it works on an updated plan.
The decision follows similar token-based billing adjustments by GitHub Copilot that drew complaints from users. Anthropic had previously indicated that subscription limits were not designed for heavy automated use of third-party tools.
