At least three dead in collision between car and two trucks on route to Florida

A head-on collision between a car and two trucks on Ruta N-48-O resulted in at least three deaths and one serious injury in Chile's Biobío Region. The incident happened near fundo El Peumo, between Concepción and Florida, leading to a temporary road closure. Officials are investigating the causes of the crash.

The crash occurred around 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday on Ruta N-48-O, near fundo El Peumo, heading toward Florida. Preliminary reports indicate that a light vehicle struck a large truck for reasons under investigation. The impact's force caused the car to veer and collide with a second truck at the same location.

Three occupants of the car died at the scene, while a fourth person sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Concepción Hospital for treatment. Teams from SAMU, Firefighters, and Carabineros responded promptly to manage the emergency and conduct rescue operations.

The route was closed in both directions due to the emergency crews' work, disrupting travel between Concepción and Florida. Drivers were advised to reroute through the communes of Bulnes or Quillón to bypass delays. Carabineros' Traffic Accident Investigation Unit (SIAT) will probe the incident's details, such as potential speeding or mechanical issues.

Such collisions on intercity routes underscore the need for caution amid heavy truck traffic, though no further details on the truck drivers' conditions have been disclosed.
