Ryan Donato scored at 2:58 of overtime to give the Chicago Blackhawks a 2-1 victory over the Anaheim Ducks at United Center on October 19, 2025. The Blackhawks rallied after Mason McTavish tied the game with 36 seconds left in the third period. Spencer Knight made 38 saves in his 100th NHL game as Chicago improved to 3-2-2.
The matchup featured young stars like Chicago's Connor Bedard and Anaheim's Leo Carlsson, with both teams trading penalties in a scoreless first period. The Ducks outshot the Blackhawks 16-10, but Knight preserved the shutout with key saves during a two-man advantage.
In the second period, Anaheim generated momentum early, but Lukas Dostal denied Bedard on several attempts, including a dialed-in shot. Carlsson nearly scored by weaving through the defense and hitting the post. Traded penalties led to 4-on-4 play, but the period ended 0-0.
The third period remained tense with broken plays until Frank Nazar tapped in a rebound at 9:43 for a 1-0 Blackhawks lead. Wyatt Kaiser's one-timer off Nazar's pass rang off the crossbar, allowing Nazar to finish at the left post. The Ducks dominated late, and after Kaiser's delay-of-game penalty at 18:13, they pulled Dostal for a 6-on-4 advantage. Overtime featured end-to-end action with saves from both goalies. On a 3-on-1 rush, Bedard fired a one-timer stopped by Dostal, grabbed the rebound behind the net, and passed to Donato for the open-net winner.
"To come down on a 2-on-1, I know Connor’s been all over it tonight with shots (nine), and he’s all over it," Donato said. Blackhawks coach Jeff Blashill praised smart plays in overtime, while Ducks coach Joel Quenneville noted outstanding goaltending and a valuable point. Dostal finished with 28 saves.
Notes: Both teams used 11 forwards and seven defensemen. Chicago was without Jason Dickinson due to injury; Landon Slaggert made his season debut with one shot in 7:32.
