A multi-storey building collapsed in Saket, Delhi, on Saturday evening, trapping several people under debris. Rescue teams have rescued at least eight persons so far.
A three-storey building located at Saidulajab near Saket metro station on Western Marg collapsed on Saturday evening. The Delhi Fire Services received a call at 7.45 p.m. and rushed five fire tenders to the site. Residents had already pulled three persons to safety before the teams arrived.
The structure had ground plus three upper floors, with the third floor under construction. It fell onto an adjacent tin shed canteen where a few children were having dinner. Locals reported hearing a sound like a generator blast moments before the collapse.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said every possible effort is being made to rescue those trapped. Teams from the National Disaster Response Force, Delhi Fire Services, Delhi Police, District Disaster Management Authority, MCD, CATS and Civil Defence are carrying out operations on site.
