Williams driver Carlos Sainz was given a Community Note on X following his post about a collision with Oscar Piastri during the Hungarian Grand Prix. The incident took place on lap 38 at the Hungaroring. Stewards issued Sainz a five-second penalty for causing the contact.
The clash occurred while Piastri, leading the race, attempted to lap Sainz, who was fighting Fernando Alonso for 17th place. Sainz moved across the racing line at Turn 2, making contact with the McLaren.
Sainz posted on X after the race, stating there was an issue with the blue flag system and that Piastri appeared in his blind spot. The FIA stewards determined that the team had informed Sainz of the blue flags and held him responsible despite limited visibility.
A Community Note on the post clarified the stewards' decision. Piastri retired from the race with a gearbox problem, while Sainz finished 18th. Lando Norris won, followed by Max Verstappen in second and Kimi Antonelli in third.
