Carly Simon is preparing to release Comes in Waves, her first album of original material since 2008. The record arrives August 14 and features the lead single Howl.
Simon has stayed mostly out of the spotlight musically since her 2009 album Never Been Gone. The new project marks a return to original songs after years focused on live shows and guest spots.
The album was co-written and produced with David Spencer. It includes contributions from Simon's children Ben and Sally Taylor along with longtime collaborators Paul Samwell-Smith and Frank Filipetti. One track features a late recording from John Forté.
In a statement, Simon described the single Howl as existing between betrayal and forgiveness. She said it starts in anger before moving toward release and healing after broken trust.
