Carmen Electra sets one condition for Baywatch reboot appearance

Carmen Electra, known for her role in the original Baywatch, has expressed interest in joining the upcoming Fox reboot but with a key caveat. She is currently in talks with the production team, though she prefers to avoid water-based scenes. The reboot, ordered for 12 episodes, aims to revive the classic beach drama with a new cast.

The original Baywatch series aired for 11 seasons from 1989 to 2001, centering on lifeguards led by David Hasselhoff's Mitch Buchannon as they handled rescues and personal dramas along Southern California beaches. Carmen Electra joined in the eighth season as rookie lifeguard Lani McKenzie, appearing for one season before returning in the 2003 reunion movie Baywatch: Hawaiian Wedding and a crossover episode of Pacific Blue.

Fox recently greenlit a 12-episode reboot, set to premiere in the 2026-2027 season, under the guidance of showrunner Matt Nix, known for Burn Notice. Original creators Greg Bonann, Michael Berk, and Doug Schwartz are executive producing alongside Dante Di Loreto, in a co-production between Fox Entertainment and Fremantle. The series will feature adrenaline-fueled rescues, tangled relationships, and beachside heroics, but with an entirely new cast and no confirmed returns from the originals as of now.

When asked by TMZ about her involvement, Electra revealed: "I'm talking to them right now, so we'll see." She added enthusiasm for certain elements, saying, "I don't know if I'd want to be in the water, necessarily, but I could do the slow-motion run. I can definitely do that. And I still look really good in that suit... Maybe I could be a captain."

Her reluctance stems from the challenges of ocean filming: "I love being around the ocean. Working in it is very different. When you're working in the ocean, it is very complicated."

Fox entertainment president Michael Thorn highlighted the reboot's potential: "In its first run, 'Baywatch' defined an entire era of beach life and elevated lifeguards to an iconic status. Now, with our partners at Fremantle, this television juggernaut is set for a modern-day comeback." He promised it "will bring the California dream to a whole new generation of fans with fresh stories, rising stars and all the spectacle that make the Baywatch franchise a global sensation."
