Coco Gauff overcame a set deficit and a match point to defeat Iva Jovic 5-7, 7-5, 6-2 in the round of 16 at the Italian Open on May 11. The World No. 4 secured her place in the quarterfinals after the teenager took a medical timeout for a blister.
Gauff trailed early in the match at the Foro Italico but found her rhythm after Jovic paused for treatment in the second set. She broke serve to level at 5-5 and closed out the set before dominating the third 6-2. The contest lasted two hours and 45 minutes under windy conditions with distractions from airplanes and phones.
