The Ministry of Mines and Energy launched the long-term clean energy contracting auction 2026 in coordination with the Bolsa Mercantil de Colombia.
The initiative will award electricity supply contracts for up to 15 years, with operations starting between 2030 and 2035. It aims to promote renewable generation and storage projects to diversify the energy mix and reduce dependence on hydrological conditions. Minister Edwin Palma stressed that the auction strengthens the firmness of the electric system while advancing decarbonization. “While the whole world is talking about fracking, we are talking about firmness, about decarbonization,” he said. Guilds such as Ser Colombia valued the mechanism. Alexandra Hernández, the organization's president, noted that long-term contracts are essential to obtain bank financing. The government is also working on regulations for energy storage.
