Colorado man charged in motel murder of woman

A 60-year-old Colorado man has been charged with first-degree murder after allegedly killing a woman at a motel in Colorado Springs. Police say Timothy O'Brien beat 65-year-old Lauren Jensen-Green with a hammer and smothered her with a pillow last month.

Court documents detail that O'Brien and Jensen-Green were using methamphetamine at the motel when she began ranting. O'Brien allegedly snapped, struck her with a hammer, and then smothered her to finish the attack.

After the killing, O'Brien hid the body between the bed and nightstand. He told police he wanted to avoid discovery until checkout time on the second day to allow time to escape.

O'Brien was arrested on May 25 on unrelated charges and questioned about the death. A roommate had alerted authorities after learning of the incident. Officers found Jensen-Green's body on May 20 at the motel in the 1700 block of South Nevada Avenue.

O'Brien is scheduled to appear in court for a preliminary hearing on July 13. He also faces kidnapping and aggravated robbery charges in a separate case.
