Couple arrested in Greater Noida for selling same flat to multiple buyers

A couple from Delhi has been arrested in Greater Noida for allegedly defrauding multiple buyers by selling the same flat to them. They collected money from several buyers without completing any sales. Police are investigating the full extent of the scam.

Delhi police arrested Naresh Kumar Sikri (57) and his wife Sharda Sikri (55), residents of Dwarka Sector 9, in Greater Noida on Friday. Naresh works as a loan agent. According to police, the couple executed multiple sale agreements for the same flat, collecting money from several buyers without completing the process.

Two cheating cases were registered last year on January 6 and July 14 at Dwarka South police station. In one case, Sharda Sikri was declared a proclaimed offender by a Dwarka court in September, and her anticipatory bail plea had been dismissed earlier.

DCP (Dwarka) Ankit Singh said, “During investigation, it emerged that the accused had mortgaged their flat and to arrange funds to settle bank dues, they allegedly began entering into sale agreements with different buyers and collecting money.” Police suspect the couple collected Rs 2-2.5 crore through the fraud.

The accused were traced to their hideouts in Greater Noida and produced before a court, which remanded them to judicial custody. Police are examining complaints and transactions to determine the total number of victims and the exact amount collected.
