Cruz Azul beat Pumas UNAM 2-1 in the Clausura 2026 final return leg at Estadio Olímpico Universitario to claim its tenth league title.
Joel Huiqui led the team in its final seven matches after taking charge before matchday 17. The Mexican coach replaced Nicolás Larcamón and finished with an unbeaten record that secured the title.
In the return leg, Pumas took the lead in the 30th minute through Robert Morales. Cruz Azul equalized in the 53rd minute via an own goal by Rubén Duarte, and Carlos Rotondi scored the winner in stoppage time.
Huiqui said after the match that his dream had been fulfilled. President Víctor Velázquez confirmed the coach will remain in charge for the Apertura 2026.
The title marks the first time in several tournaments that a Mexican manager has won the Liga MX championship.
