D.K. Shivakumar is set to take over as Karnataka chief minister on June 3 following Siddaramaiah’s resignation under a power-sharing deal. Congress leaders stressed continuity and unity at a gathering in the state.
D.K. Shivakumar is scheduled to be sworn in as chief minister on June 3 at the Glass House in Lok Bhavan. Between eight and 10 legislators are expected to join the initial cabinet alongside him.
Outgoing chief minister Siddaramaiah addressed a Congress gathering and called on Shivakumar to lead efforts to defend the Constitution. He highlighted the need to counter attempts to glorify Godse and deepen caste and religious divisions.
KC Venugopal told the gathering that the party would not allow Siddaramaiah to rest and that he would remain active in state and national politics. Party sources said the transition followed negotiations and was handled in a mature manner.
