Disney greenlights third Phineas and Ferb movie

Disney Branded Television has approved a third movie in the Phineas and Ferb franchise, featuring a time-travel adventure where the brothers must restore their family's timeline. The film will premiere on Disney+ and Disney Channel, with production starting later this year. Original cast members and creators are returning for the project.

The announcement comes ahead of new episodes from the revived fifth season of Phineas and Ferb, which premiered last summer and drew nearly 600 million minutes viewed, ranking on Nielsen’s Streaming Top 10. The series, originally launched in 2008, has been Disney Television Animation's most successful animated show for kids aged 6-11 and tweens 9-14. This marks the third film following Phineas and Ferb: Across the 2nd Dimension in 2011, which ranked as one of TV's top movies that year, and Phineas and Ferb the Movie: Candace Against the Universe in 2020, which debuted as the No. 3 most-watched streaming movie for all viewers and No. 1 for kids 6-11 in its first week on Disney+.

In the new movie, Dr. Doofenshmirtz’s latest time-travel experiment backfires, erasing the moment Phineas’ mom meets Ferb’s dad, preventing the boys from becoming brothers and making every day 'merely adequate.' As reality unravels, Phineas and Ferb must restore the timeline to save the future. No official title or release date has been revealed, but production is set to begin later this year.

Co-creators Dan Povenmire and Jeff “Swampy” Marsh are returning as executive producers, alongside writers Kate Kondell and Jeff Howard, director Bob Bowen, and producer Brandi Young. The voice cast includes Vincent Martella as Phineas Flynn, David Errigo Jr. as Ferb Fletcher, Ashley Tisdale as Candace Flynn, Caroline Rhea as Linda Flynn-Fletcher, Alyson Stoner as Isabella Garcia-Shapiro, Maulik Pancholy as Baljeet, Bobby Gaylor as Buford, Dee Bradley Baker as Perry the Platypus, Povenmire as Dr. Heinz Doofenshmirtz, and Marsh as Major Francis Monogram.

“We’ve always wanted to explore a story centered on family and unconditional love, preferably in a way that’s bold and sentimental yet classically funny,” said Povenmire and Marsh in a joint statement. “We’re grateful to Ayo and her team for giving us the runway to expand Danville and take these characters to a whole new level.”

Ayo Davis, president of Disney Branded Television, added: “‘Phineas and Ferb’ is built on imagination, heart and humor, where the unexpected is always part of the fun. This movie gives Dan and Swampy the chance to stretch that world even further and play with what happens when everything gets turned on its head.”

The franchise has amassed over 12.8 billion hours watched across linear and streaming platforms since its return.
