Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and European Commissioner Dubravka Šuica met in Cairo to review the Egypt-EU Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and discuss regional developments.
Political consultations were held in Cairo on Saturday. The two sides assessed progress in the partnership since last year’s Egypt-EU Summit and the 11th Egypt-EU Association Council meeting held in Luxembourg in mid-June.
Abdelatty stressed the importance of deeper economic, investment and trade cooperation. He expressed appreciation for the European Union’s support for Egypt’s economic reform programme and initiatives in education and scientific research.
The ministers exchanged views on U.S.-Iran negotiations and other issues including Palestine, Lebanon, Libya and Sudan. Abdelatty welcomed the launch of the Mediterranean Pact.
Šuica reaffirmed the European Union’s commitment to deepening the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with Egypt as a key partner in the southern Mediterranean.
