Egypt’s Minister of Industry Khaled Hashem met with UNDP Resident Representative Chitose Noguchi to explore greater collaboration on green transformation and renewable energy projects for the industrial sector.
The talks reviewed ongoing UNDP-supported initiatives in Egypt, including the Egypt-PV solar systems project. This effort has so far installed more than 240 small grid-connected solar stations on rooftops and provided support to over 20 factories.
Hashem outlined the Egyptian Industry Advancement Strategy 2030, which targets seven priority industries and aims to raise industrial exports to $100 billion by 2030. He also presented the Industry Solar Initiative, which plans to add 1,000 megawatts of solar capacity for factories within the next two years.
Noguchi welcomed the 1,000-megawatt target and noted UNDP’s Solar Energy Transformation Initiative, which seeks private investment for up to 200 megawatts of solar projects. The partnership also covers technology transfer, including artificial intelligence and automation, as well as support for compliance with the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism.
