Actress Elsa Aguirre died at age 95 in her home in Cuernavaca, Morelos. The National Association of Performers confirmed her death on July 15.
Elsa Aguirre was born on September 25, 1930, in Chihuahua. She appeared in dozens of films during Mexico’s Golden Age of cinema and shared credits with actors including Pedro Infante and Jorge Negrete.
President Claudia Sheinbaum offered condolences and described her as “a symbol of national Golden Age cinema and of Mexico.” The actress had lived in Cuernavaca for years and followed a routine of yoga, meditation, and a vegetarian diet.
Aguirre faced health issues such as bronchopneumonia in 2023 and used supplemental oxygen. Her sister Alma Rosa Aguirre died in January 2025, also at age 95. No cause of death was reported.
