Argentine-Chilean striker Fernando Zampedri, recently naturalized, has been assigned as a polling clerk for Chile's November presidential and parliamentary elections. He will serve at a high school in Las Condes. This assignment marks his first civic duty as a Chilean citizen.
Fernando Zampedri, the striker for Universidad Católica, received his Chilean naturalization in February 2025, specifically on Tuesday, February 18, when he obtained the citizenship letter signed by Carolina Tohá, former Minister of the Interior and Public Security. The next day, he received documents from the National Migration Service confirming the approval of his application. This naturalization allowed him to meet FIFA's requirement of five years of uninterrupted residence in Chile, completed on December 30, 2024.
As a new citizen, Zampedri has been designated by the Electoral Service (Servel) as a polling clerk for the presidential and parliamentary elections on November 15 and 16, 2025. He will serve at polling station 263 in the Liceo Bicentenario Santa María, in Las Condes, the commune where he is registered to vote. Servel's instructions state: “On Saturday, November 15, the day of the polling station setup, report to your voting location at 3:00 p.m. If this is your first time performing this function, attendance at the training is mandatory. On Sunday, November 16, the election day, report to your voting location at 7:30 a.m.”.
Failure to fulfill this civic duty incurs fines of between 2 and 8 UTM, equivalent to approximately $137,000 and $549,000, unless a valid justification is presented to the Electoral Board within three days after notification.
After his naturalization, Zampedri debuted with the Chilean national team in March 2025, called up by Ricardo Gareca for the matches against Paraguay and Ecuador. He came on as a substitute against Paraguay and played minutes against Ecuador, marking his only call-up so far.
