Epic Games released new swimsuit outfits for Batman, Catwoman, Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy in Fortnite on July 16. The addition, part of the Hot Bat Summer event with DC Comics, triggered widespread discussion across social media and parenting forums. Critics described the items as overly suggestive while others dismissed the reaction as exaggerated.
The skins feature characters in standard bikini designs along with Batman. Fortnite carries a Teen rating from the ESRB, and the new items include their own 13+ restriction that prevents use in modes such as Lego Fortnite.
Parents and online commentators posted complaints on X, Instagram, Facebook and the Fortnite subreddit. Some described the outfits as signalling sexual energy and said they had removed the game from their children's devices.
Epic Games briefly shared a less revealing version of the Poison Ivy skin on social media before clarifying that the final design had not been altered. The episode also drew attention from creators producing adult animations based on the characters.
