Roland Garros now features retractable roofs on its two main show courts to handle weather issues during the French Open.
The French Open installed retractable roofs at Court Philippe Chatrier in 2020 and Court Suzanne Lenglen in 2024. These are the only covered courts among the 20 at the venue, with the remaining 18 staying open air and using tarps during rain. Chair umpires decide when to close the roofs, which takes about 15 minutes, though officials prefer outdoor play whenever possible.
