Giroud signs one-year deal with Lille for last dance

Olivier Giroud has signed a new one-year contract to stay at Lille OSC. The move comes after a successful return to French football last season.

The 39-year-old striker agreed to the deal on June 8, which he described as likely his final season as a professional. Giroud joined Lille last July after playing for Los Angeles FC and previously starred for clubs including Arsenal, Chelsea and AC Milan. In his first campaign back in Ligue 1, Giroud scored 11 goals across all competitions and helped the team finish third, earning a spot in the Champions League. He cited the chance to play in Europe again as a major factor in extending his stay. Giroud, who turns 40 in September, told the club website that the 2026-27 season would probably mark the end of his career. He added he feels at home in the north of France and looks forward to working with new coach Davide Ancelotti.
