Google has introduced Me Meme, an AI-powered feature in its Photos app that turns user photos into personalized memes using templates. The tool allows users to upload images of pets, friends, or themselves to create shareable content. It is rolling out gradually to Android and iOS devices over the coming weeks.
Google's latest addition to its Photos app, Me Meme, enables users to generate memes by combining their own photographs with pre-selected templates. The feature uses generative AI to create synthetic versions of people or objects in humorous scenarios, making it easy to produce content for sharing with friends and family.
To access Me Meme, users open the Google Photos app, tap the Create button at the bottom of the screen, and select Me Meme. They then choose a template and add a reference photo, such as a well-lit, front-facing portrait for best results. After generating the meme, options include saving it, regenerating for variations, or sharing directly to other platforms. Google notes that the feature is experimental, warning that "generated images may not perfectly match the original photo."
The company describes Me Meme as "a simple way to explore with your photos and create content that's ready to share." While not yet available to all users—as of recent checks on devices like the Google Pixel 9—it is set to roll out to both Android and iOS over the coming weeks, according to a Google representative.
This launch aligns with Google's efforts to make AI tools more accessible and fun. At CES 2026, executive Sameer Samat emphasized enhancing features like Gemini to be more useful, though meme creation highlights playful applications of the technology. A Google representative did not immediately respond to further comment requests.
